The agency of the US Department of Defense tasked with threat reduction, in collaboration with the National Guard of Kazakhstan, conducted a qualifying training course on nuclear security, as reported by Sarbaz.kz citing the US Embassy in Kazakhstan.

The qualifying training course on nuclear security took place at the crisis management training center in Ust-Kamenogorsk. It involved members of the National Guard of Kazakhstan. The training course consisted of the development and implementation of exercises to assess the competencies of nuclear security protection forces at the unit level.

According to the diplomatic mission, this course reflects a new emphasis on training specific units responsible for nuclear security, including those in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Almaty, and Kurchatov.

Future plans include continued collaboration between the Agency for Threat Reduction and the National Guard of Kazakhstan "to establish a sustainable educational program on nuclear security."
