After confirming enrollment in a university, students are granted deferments from military service for the duration of their studies.
Students who receive a draft notice must present themselves at the military enlistment office with a certificate confirming their enrollment in an educational institution. This document can be obtained from the university, as reported by Sarbaz.kz with reference to the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Military Service and the Status of Servicemen."
Therefore, after confirming enrollment in a university, students receive deferments from military service for the duration of their studies. The decision to grant this deferment is made by the draft commission formed by local executive authorities.
"Deferment from conscription for continuing education is granted to citizens receiving post-secondary vocational education for the period of study. To obtain a deferment from compulsory military service, it is necessary to provide a certificate of completion of training in the relevant educational organizations to the draft commission at the place of military registration," the Law states.
Kazakhstan citizens between the ages of 18 and 27 are subject to compulsory military service. Military service in Kazakhstan lasts for one year. Deferments from military service can also be granted to citizens based on their health condition, government employees, fathers of three or more children, individuals with previous convictions, and those who are under investigation.
