Trump is under investigation for organised attempt to overthrow the government in 2020
The Colorado State Court has ruled that former US President Donald Trump was involved in the Capitol riot, but despite this, he did not violate his oath. Therefore, his candidacy can be admitted to the upcoming presidential elections. This was reported by the Associated Press.
Judge Sarah Wallace concluded that the former president "incited the uprising" on January 6, 2021, and rejected the arguments of the lawyers claiming Trump was exercising "freedom of speech." Nevertheless, she couldn't disqualify the presidential candidate and ruled that Trump could remain on the primary ballot for the presidential elections.
In response, Trump's pre-election campaign representative, Steven Chung, reacted negatively to the court's decision, calling it "another nail in the coffin of anti-American problems with electoral ballots."
According to the agency, similar decisions have been made by courts in several other states – all of them have kept Trump on the electoral ballots.
Earlier, there was news about Trump's increasing support among voters in the US. According to The New York Times, he managed to surpass the incumbent head of state, Joe Biden, in terms of voter support in five out of the six crucial states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.
In 2020, Trump lost the US presidential elections to Joe Biden. Subsequently, as a sign of protest, on January 6, 2021, his supporters staged the Capitol riot.
