Kazakhstan has experienced its first setback in the new season of European football competitions.
Three Kazakhstani clubs – "Astana," "Aktobe," and "Tobol" – continue their participation in European football competitions, while Shymkent-based "Ordabasy" exited the tournament on August 3, as reported by Sarbaz.kz.
In the return leg of the UEFA Champions League qualification, "Astana" suffered a 0-2 defeat at home to Zagreb's "Dynamo" and exited the tournament. However, the champions of Kazakhstan will continue their journey in the third round of UEFA Europa League qualification, facing Bulgarian side "Ludogorets." The matches are scheduled for August 10 and 17.
Advancing successfully to the next round of the UEFA Conference League qualification were "Aktobe" and Kostanay's "Tobol." After an away victory against Georgian side "Torpedo" (4-1), "Aktobe" suffered a 1-2 defeat at home in the return leg but managed to progress. In the third round, "Aktobe" will face Romanian club "Sepsi," with matches set for August 10 and 17.
"Tobol" created one of the tournament's sensations by eliminating last season's UEFA Conference League semi-finalist "Basel." Following a 3-1 away victory, the Kostanay team suffered a 1-2 defeat at home, but this result secured their progression. Their next opponent is Irish side "Derry City," with matches also taking place on August 10 and 17.
Meanwhile, Shymkent's "Ordabasy" failed to progress further in the UEFA Conference League, succumbing to Polish side "Legia" over the two-legged tie. After a 2-2 draw in Shymkent, the Kazakhstani club suffered a 2-3 defeat in Poland and exited the tournament.
