The missile project is envisioned to be an upgraded version of South Korea's ground-to-ground tactical missile, aiming to create a more precision-guided, longer-range weapon, as reported by Sarbaz.kz citing armyrecognition.com.
According to a statement from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), investments in the project will amount to approximately $218 million USD from September 2023 to December 2027. The project will be developed under the guidance of the Defense Development Agency.
The prototype of the tactical missile was designed as a vehicle-mounted system to extend its range, penetration capability, and overall resilience. The missile's purpose is to destroy tunnels, bunkers, and defensive positions of the enemy at significant distances.
It's worth noting that in 2018, South Korea had previously announced the development of missiles of a similar nature for the defense of its maritime borders.
