Car Production in Kazakhstan Doubles

A significant portion of automotive manufacturing is concentrated in the Kostanay region.

In the first half of 2023, the value of the automotive production has increased from 507.8 billion KZT to 847.5 billion KZT compared to the previous year, as reported by Sarbaz.kz citing Energyprom.

The share of automotive production in the engineering sector has grew from 37.5% to 45.4%, equating to 17.6% of the overall industrial production.

The majority of production is concentrated in the Kostanay region, particularly Allur, which  has accounted for almost 55% of all automobile production. A close follow-up is Almaty, with a 35.4% share of all assembled vehicles, where Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan and Hyundai Trans Auto operate. Next in line are the Abai region (SemAZ, Daewoo Bus Kazakhstan), Karaganda region (QazTehna), and Akmola region (Kamaz Engineering).

In total, during the first five months of 2023, the country produced 58.5 thousand units of vehicles, which is 43.9% more than in the same period last year. The overwhelming majority, 53.3 thousand units, were passenger cars, with 3.9 thousand units of commercial vehicles, 791 buses, and 436 trailers and semitrailers.

Among the popular models produced in Kazakhstan, the leading ones are Chevrolet Cobalt (8.4 thousand units), Jac J7 (8 thousand units), Hyundai Tucson (5.7 thousand units), Kia Sportage (4.5 thousand units), Hyundai Sonata (3.2 thousand units), and Chevrolet Nexia (3 thousand units).
