Monuments to Kazakh Warriors: Countries Where They Stand Tall

The stories of our warriors' heroism are not only recorded in literature and scholarly records but are also immortalised worldwide.

Sarbaz.kz has collected a list of countries, where Kazakh heroes of different eras are immortalised in the form of stone monuments

Mongolia

In 2018, a monument was erected in Olgiy city to honor the Kazakh warrior Khozhabergen Batyr Zhanibekuly from the Abak Kerey clan (1698-1783). Khozhabergen Batyr played an active role in trade relations between the Kazakh Khanate and China and was one of the banner-bearers of Abylai Khan's forces during the war with the Dzungars.

Turkey

In 2006, at the initiative of the Turkish side, a monument to Kabanbay Batyr was unveiled in Istanbul. The project was designed by Azerbaijani sculptor Rugi. Kabanbay Batyr (1692-1770) was one of the military leaders who directly fought against the Dzungar invaders.

Ukraine

In 2005, a monument was installed in Sinelnykovo to honor Algaday Zhambylov, the son of Zhambyl Zhabayev. Algaday served as a machine gunner in the 19th Guards Cavalry Regiment. He bravely fought in the defense of Stalingrad and participated in battles in Ukraine, where he fell heroically in 1943.

Bulgaria

In 2017, a bas-relief of Chokan Valikhanov was installed in Pliska city. The author of the plaque is Bulgarian citizen Valeri Zhelyazkov. The plaque is located in the "Cyrillic Court" cultural and historical complex, among the alley of writers.

Tajikistan

In 2007, a monument was erected in Dushanbe to commemorate the Kazakh peacekeepers who lost their lives while guarding the Tajik-Afghan border. The battalion was on a mission to protect the borders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). On April 7, 1995, the unit fell into an ambush, resulting in 17 fatalities and 33 other fighters being wounded.

Russia

Several monuments and sculptures of Kazakh warriors who participated in the Great Patriotic War can be found in Russia.

 

In 1978, a monument to Manshuk Mametova was unveiled in Nevel.

 

Monuments to Aliya Moldagulova can be found in Moscow and Pskov, and a memorial plaque in her honor is located in St. Petersburg.

In Volokolamsk, a bust of Bauyrzhan Momyshuly was erected in 1995.

A statue of Tolegen Tokhtarov stands in Staraya Russa.

A monument to Sultan Baimagambetov is located in Kirovsk.
