120,000 17-year-old Kazakhstanis enlist into military service annually

In Kazakhstan, the process of enlisting in the military service is set to become automated for 17-year-old youths starting from 2024, according to a report by Sarbaz.kz citing the Ministry of Defense's press office.
As outlined by the ministry, this shift towards automation is part of the broader efforts to streamline the state apparatus. The automatic enlistment of 17-year-old youths into military service will be made possible through the integration of information systems among various government agencies, particularly between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health.
Under the new system, youths aged 15 to 18 will undergo a comprehensive evaluation by medical professionals, based on assessments provided by specialized doctors and laboratory analyses. The results of these evaluations will be made accessible to the Ministry of Defense's systems. It is anticipated that this automation will lead to substantial cost savings, potentially saving over a billion tenge in budgetary funds that are typically allocated to military enlistment offices.
It is worth recalling that each year, the enlistment process involves the assessment of fitness for military service for 17-year-old youths, wherein their suitability for service is determined. Annually, approximately 120,000 17-year-old Kazakhstani citizens are enlisted into military records.
