The toll of casualties from fires in Hawaii has risen to 80, reports Sarbaz.kz citing "RIA Novosti."

Previously, the reported death toll was 67.

"The number of fatalities has reached 80," the county's statement said.

The forest fires on the islands of Maui and Big Island were ignited due to dry and hot weather conditions, exacerbated by strong winds brought by Hurricane "Dora." Some fire outbreaks have spread across an area of 400 hectares. The flames have ravaged several settlements, including the popular tourist destination of Lahaina. Authorities have been forced to close roads, and public transportation is suspended. Hundreds of local residents have been evacuated.

President Joe Biden has issued orders for all federal agencies in Hawaii, including the military, to join efforts in combating the fires. The Pentagon earlier announced the deployment of National Guard personnel and helicopters to assist local authorities.
