Beijing commemorated "Abay Day" – a day dedicated to the great thinker, poet, literary and cultural reformer of the steppe, and the founder of Kazakh literature, reports Sarbaz.kz citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

As part of the event, Chinese schoolchildren and students recited Abay's poems in both Kazakh and Chinese. Artists from the Beijing Folk Instrument Orchestra and students from the Central University for Nationalities of China performed Abay's songs accompanied by Kazakh and Chinese traditional musical instruments.

The annual tradition of organising spiritual and enlightening events, laying flowers at the monument of the great ancestor, and hosting reading challenges of his works has become a cherished practice in Beijing among literature, art, and word enthusiasts.

The event was attended by heads of various diplomatic missions accredited to the People's Republic of China, representatives of state bodies, academic and creative intellectuals from China, the Kazakh diaspora, as well as journalists from Kazakhstani and Chinese media outlets.
