Head of Ministry of Emergency Situations Inspects Progress of Dam Construction in Almaty

The construction of flood-retention dams contributes to protection against flood hazards and ensures stability along the Korgas and Ulken Almaty rivers.

Minister of Emergency Situations Syrym Sharipkhanov commenced his working visit to Almaty by inspecting the construction of flood-protection structures, as reported by Sarbaz.kz citing the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Attention was focused on the progress of work at the "Chukurbulak" dam, which is part of an international project aimed at ensuring the safety not only of residential areas but also of vital infrastructure along the Korgas river, both within the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China.

The "Chukurbulak" dam boasts impressive technical specifications, including a flood storage capacity of 10 million cubic meters, a height of 50.70 meters, and a length of 534 meters. Specialists reported that the readiness of the object on the part of the Republic of Kazakhstan currently stands at 80%.

Syrym Sharipkhanov expressed satisfaction with the progress of the construction, but underscored the need to accelerate the pace of work considering the international significance of the project. The Minister instructed the responsible bodies to ensure the quality execution of construction work and strict adherence to timelines.

The flood-retention dam project "Chukurbulak" is being implemented in accordance with an agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and China and is aimed at minimizing the threat of flooding in the region. To ensure the safety of the population and vital infrastructure, the construction of the "Ayusay" dam on the Ulken Almaty river is also underway. The head of the State Institution "Kazselzashchita," Kayrat Bekenov, reported on the final stage of work on this project, which is also crucial for the protection of the population and infrastructure in the region.

The Minister emphasized the importance of strict adherence to deadlines and work quality in the construction of both dams and highlighted their significant role in ensuring safety in the region.
