Members of an interdepartmental commission have reached a decision to impose a comprehensive prohibition on vapes, liquids, and associated flavorings, as reported by Sarbaz.kz with reference to the Respublica party.

In May 2023, a deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and a member of the Respublica faction, Nurgul Tau, submitted a parliamentary query to the country's Prime Minister. The query was based on appeals from Kazakh citizens demanding measures to curtail the proliferation of vapes among children, adolescents, and young people.

The deputy asserts that members of the interdepartmental commission voted almost unanimously (12 to 2) in favor of introducing a complete ban on the sale, import, export, and production of vapes.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the turnover of vapes has surged by a factor of 300. The consumption of vapes by children and teenagers has seen a manifold increase over the past few years. Approximately three million units of vapes were imported into Kazakhstan over a span of 2.5 years. The department notes that this business has proven to be highly lucrative.
