Border Control in Kazakhstan has Intercepted Nearly a Ton of Narcotics Since the Beginning of the Year

Out of this amount, 800 kilograms were intended for smuggling into Kazakhstan, while the remainder was destined for export.

Border control in Kazakhstan have thwarted attempts to transport over 940 kilograms of narcotics across the country's border since the beginning of the current year. Narcotic substances, including heroin, cannabis resin, hashish, marijuana, synthetic compounds, and other varieties, were seized by border guards, as stated by Colonel Gani Agadilov, the First Deputy Chief of the Department of Border Control of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This information has been reported by Sarbaz.kz.

"Significant quantities of narcotics were apprehended at the border crossing points in the Turkestan, Zhambyl, and North Kazakhstan regions. Criminal cases have been initiated in connection with all instances of narcotics smuggling. The comparison with the previous year indicates an increase in such activity. Primarily, these narcotics originate from the southern direction," explained Colonel Gani Agadilov.

According to representatives of the border service of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 230 individuals have been detained in connection with these incidents.

"Most of these individuals are drug-dependent users who attempted to transport small quantities of narcotics. There were three significant cases of apprehension at the border crossing points in the Turkestan region from Uzbekistan and the Zhambyl region from Kyrgyzstan," disclosed Gani Agadilov.
