Kazakhstan Achieves "Terrorism-Free" Country Status, According to the National Security Commitee

Another meeting of the Anti-Terrorism Center of Kazakhstan took place in Astana under the leadership of the Chairman of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ermek Sagimbayev.

The consultative and advisory body was attended by the heads of central state bodies, regional akims (governors), leaders of territorial units of special and law enforcement agencies, as reported by Sarbaz.kz, citing the press service of KNB RK.

The results of the implementation of the state program to counter religious extremism and terrorism in Kazakhstan for 2018-2022 were reviewed. Kazakhstan's ranking in the Global Terrorism Index rose from 67th place in 2017 to the maximum 93rd position – the level of a "terrorism-free" country.

"The issues related to the execution of the Comprehensive Development Plan for the State System of Countering Extremism and Terrorism for 2023-2025 were discussed. This document is a logical continuation of the State Program and is aimed at countering new challenges and threats to the stability of the country. Particular attention is paid to the work in the field of preventing terrorism and extremism among young people. Joint measures have been developed to prevent the involvement and disengagement of this category of individuals from radical ideology," the agency's statement said.
