Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the head of state, met with Gary Peters, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on National Security and Government Affairs. During the meeting, he noted that Peters' visit provides an excellent opportunity for a comprehensive exchange of views on matters of bilateral cooperation, as reported by Sarbaz.kz, citing Akorda.

"The United States has always been our strategic partner in strengthening global security, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, ensuring economic stability, and promoting democratic values. I believe we have achieved much, but we must continue to strengthen mutual cooperation in areas of mutual interest," said the President.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed gratitude to President Joe Biden for the invitation to the first summit of Central Asian and U.S. leaders, which will take place in the "C5+1" format at the United Nations General Assembly in September of this year.

In turn, Gary Peters thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the opportunity to discuss key issues related to strengthening relations between the United States and Kazakhstan.

"Central Asia is an important part of the world, and Kazakhstan is a key country in the Central Asian region. Therefore, we want to ensure that we have opportunities for further collaboration. I believe President Biden shares this view, and he will be delighted to meet with you in New York soon. This will help us continue working on strengthening our relations," the senator said.

The U.S. Senate Committee on National Security and Government Affairs is the principal oversight committee of the United States Senate. It has jurisdiction over issues related to the Department of Homeland Security and other matters of domestic security, as well as the functioning of the government itself, including the National Archives, budget and accounting measures (except appropriations), population census, federal civil service, District of Columbia affairs, and the U.S. Postal Service.
