Over the weekend, an interdepartmental meeting was held involving the Ministries of Defense, Industry, and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the leaders of defense industry enterprises. The meeting provided a comprehensive discussion of existing issues and potential solutions, as reported by Sarbaz.kz.

Topics under discussion included the diversification of arms and military equipment procurement, the necessity to explore new supply markets with consideration for the country's military-economic security amid the current geopolitical situation, sanctions, and disruptions in logistics chains.

Technical support and maintenance for the existing inventory of arms and military equipment, as well as the development and localization of the production of modern armaments and ammunition, were also touched upon.

"Given that the Ministry of Defense is the primary recipient of the state defense order's output, it is prepared to support the development of production provided that the products and services meet the specified technical requirements, quality standards, and optimal pricing," stated R. Zhaxylykov.

The role of the Ministry of Industry and Construction, as the authorized body in military-technical cooperation and the defense industry, was emphasized as paramount by the head of the defense department. The ministry is already actively exploring this matter, and it is essential to unite efforts. The Defense Industry Development Fund is expected to play a significant role in establishing new military production, with funding allocated exclusively to projects that are genuinely needed for defense purposes.

During the meeting, Kanat Sharlapayev, the Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, highlighted the department's tasks, including raising the share of technology adoption in the repair of weapons and military equipment to 55%, modernization to 35%, and modern production to 70%. Achieving these objectives will be facilitated by expanding military-technical cooperation and offering low-interest loans to defense industry enterprises through the Defense Industry Development Fund.
