Kazakhstan's Defense Expenditure Lowest in Central Asia

According to the SIPRI institute, Kazakhstan's defense expenditures amounted to just 0.5% of GDP.

For 2023, the defense budget is set at over 1.2 trillion tenge, an 11% increase compared to 2022, as reported by Sarbaz.kz, citing Finprom.

Between January and August of this year, the state budget of the Republic of Kazakhstan allocated 715.7 billion tenge for defense, with an execution rate of 57.6% of the adjusted budget. In comparison to the same period in 2022, expenditures have increased by 6.8%.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Kazakhstan's defense spending accounts for just 0.5% of GDP. By comparison, Kyrgyzstan's defense expenditures make up 1.5% of GDP, while Tajikistan's account for 1%.

As for investments in the sphere of public administration, defense, and mandatory social security, during the period from January to September 2023, they saw a 21% increase compared to the same period. The total amount of investments reached 98.8 billion tenge.
