Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Spain, Danat Musayev, made a working trip to the Canary Islands autonomous community, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

At the onset of his visit, the Kazakh diplomat held discussions with the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and the representative of the Spanish Government in the Canary Islands, Maria Teresa Mayans.

The meetings involved exchanging views on pressing matters concerning regional cooperation.

Moreover, as part of the Ambassador's visit, a "round table" was conducted jointly with the Chamber of Commerce of the region. During this event, the Ambassador highlighted to the business community representatives the priority of enhancing economic ties between the regions of the two countries, along with utilizing our country's transit potential for freight transportation between Europe and Asia.

The central event of the visit was the ceremonial opening of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Canary Islands. Heading the Kazakh representation in the region is Professor Rafael Juan Molina Petit, specializing in international trade and the international economy at the Atlantic Directive Institute, who previously held managerial positions in the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism of the Canary Islands.

Addressing the ceremony participants, D. Musayev emphasised in his speech that expanding the geographical reach of the institute of honorary consuls within the Kingdom contributes to the development of Kazakh-Spanish cooperation. It also underscores the strategic nature of relations between our countries.

The honorary consul plays a pivotal role, primarily in strengthening economic and cultural-humanitarian ties between the region and Kazakhstan. A priority area of activity undoubtedly involves safeguarding the rights and legitimate interests of Kazakhstani citizens. Special attention will be given to supporting contacts with Kazakhstani children adopted by Spanish citizens.

It's worth noting that currently, Kazakhstan operates four honorary consulates in various regions of Spain.
