Kazakhstani UFC fighter Shavkat Rahmonov (17-0) has learned the name of his next opponent and the exact date of the fight, as reported by Sarbaz.kz.
American fighter Stephen Thompson (17-6-1) has announced that he has accepted the promotion's offer to face Rahmonov. "Let's close out this year strong!" the future opponent addressed Rahmonov.
Judging by Thompson's statement, the fighters will square off at UFC 296. The event is scheduled for December 16th in the American city of Las Vegas.
Recall that Rahmonov fought his last bout in March 2023 when he submitted American Jeff Neil (15-5) with a chokehold in the third round. Thompson last stepped into the octagon in December 2022 when he defeated compatriot Kevin Holland (25-10) by technical knockout.
