President Joe Biden has made history by nominating a woman for the position of Chief of Naval Operations, a first in the United States. Admiral Lisa Franchetti's candidacy will be subject to Senate approval, as reported by Sarbaz.kz with reference to Deutsche Welle.
Admiral Franchetti's candidacy will now proceed to the U.S. Senate for confirmation. Currently, she serves as the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Operations, Plans, and Strategy. She previously commanded U.S. naval forces in the Mediterranean and Korea and has an impressive 38-year career in the armed forces.
According to the White House, Admiral Lisa Franchetti is only the second woman in history to achieve the rank of four-star admiral in the U.S. Navy. "If her nomination is approved, she will make history once again as the first woman to assume the position of Chief of Naval Operations and be part of the Joint Chiefs of Staff," the statement reads.
