An explosion was heard on the Golan Heights, with its causes currently unknown, as reported by Sarbaz.kz, citing the Israeli portal Ynet, and a source in Syria.

"An unidentified explosion was heard on the Golan Heights," the portal informs.

Until 1967, the Golan Heights were part of the Syrian province of El-Kuneitra, primarily inhabited by Druze, a distinct ethnoreligious Arab group. During the Six-Day War of 1967 and the Fourth Arab-Israeli War of 1973, Israel captured two-thirds of this strategic territory. In 1981, Israel unilaterally declared sovereignty over the region, a move not recognized by the United Nations Security Council. On March 25, 2019, the then-US President Donald Trump recognized the occupied Golan Heights as Israeli territory.

On the morning of October 7, Israel was subjected to an unprecedented scale of rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip as part of the "Flood of Al-Aqsa" military operation declared by the military wing of the Palestinian group, Hamas. Moreover, following massive rocket strikes, Hamas fighters infiltrated border areas in southern Israel. In response, the Israel Defense Forces initiated the "Iron Swords" operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In the days following the attack, Israeli forces took control of all populated areas along the Gaza border and began conducting aerial strikes on various targets, including civilian infrastructure, in the Gaza Strip. Israel also declared a full blockade on the Gaza Strip, resulting in the suspension of water, food, electricity, medicine, and fuel supplies.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has reached 3,478 people, with a thousand Israeli residents losing their lives. Several thousand Israelis and Palestinians have been injured. There have been reports of multiple deceased and missing Russian citizens and individuals from other countries. According to various reports, there may be around 150 Israeli captives held by Hamas. The movement itself stated that there are approximately 200-250 captives in the Gaza Strip.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on both sides to cease hostilities. According to the stance of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a resolution to the Middle East crisis is only possible based on the United Nations Security Council-endorsed "two-state" formula, which envisions the creation of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict, rooted in territorial interests, has been a source of tension and conflict in the region for decades. In 1947, the United Nations decided to create two states - Israel and Palestine, with active Soviet involvement. However, only the Israeli state was established, and despite declaring acceptance of the two-state principle, Israel has not completely freed the Palestinian territories.
