The war between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas has resulted in significant casualties among journalists, according to Sarbaz.kz, citing the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

The committee is investigating all reports of journalists and media workers killed, injured, detained, or missing during the war, including those affected by the hostilities in neighboring Lebanon.

As of November 2, CPJ's preliminary investigation showed that at least 36 journalists and media workers have been killed since the war began on October 7. In total, approximately ten thousand casualties are known from both sides to date.

The Israel Defense Forces told Reuters and France Press that they cannot guarantee the safety of their journalists working in the Gaza Strip after the media requested assurances that their journalists would not become targets of Israeli strikes.

In a letter, the IDF stated that the Israeli army is targeting all Hamas military facilities in the Gaza Strip, adding that Hamas militants deliberately carry out military operations "near journalists and civilians." In this regard, the IDF called on the mentioned news agencies to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of their journalists.

The Committee emphasizes that journalists are civilians performing important work during the crisis and should not become targets of warring parties.

"Journalists across the region (Middle East and North Africa) make great sacrifices to cover this heart-wrenching conflict. Those working in Gaza face unprecedented threats," said Sherif Mansour, CPJ's Middle East and North Africa program coordinator.

It is worth noting that in addition to the 36 confirmed deaths of media workers, the Committee has confirmed information about 8 injured and 9 detained or missing journalists. Furthermore, CPJ continues to investigate new reports of incidents involving journalists.
